“Give Her Something To Eat” (Mark’s Gospel 5:35-43)

May the grace and love of God be upon you who is listening to God’s voice today in this worship.

I remember that a nurse who worked in surgery center of a hospital. She let me know about a patient who got surgery from severe pneumonia. The patient was lifelong smoker. Despite warning of doctor after surgery in not smoking more, he did smoke and lost his life.

Surgery was lucky but his carelessness lost precise thing in life. Keeping care of life and health is important rather than one miracle in life.

Today Bible let us know about why caring is important in life.

Let us read together Mark’s Gospel 5:39-43,

“He went in and said to them, “Why all this commotion and wailing the child is not dead but asleep.” But they laughed at him. After he put them all out, he took the child’s father and mother and the disciples who were with him and went in where the child was.” He took her by hand and said to her, “Talitha Koum!” which means, “Little girl, I say to you, get up!” Immediately the girl stood up and walked around. She was twelve years old. At this they were completely astonished. He gave strict orders not to let anyone know about this and told them to give her something to eat.”

When Jesus Christ was with many people for teaching, a synagogue ruler came to ask healing on his dying daughter home. Jesus answered him to heal her so, heading to his home. Then somebody from his home came to let them know about the girl who was dead. But Jesus said to him “Don’t be afraid and believe”

When Jesus entered the house, all people wailed but Jesus brought parents of girl and three disciples, Peter, James and John in her room. And Jesus said to her “Little girl, I say to you, get up!” the girl stood up immediately and walked around. All people that saw this were completely astonished.  Jesus ordered them not to let anyone know and told them to give her something to eat.

When Jesus said to them “She is not dead but asleep” they laughed at and they were astonished to see the girl alive. Jesus ordered strictly not to tell this because people misunderstand on this miracle.

Verse 43 say,

“He gave strict orders not to let anyone know about this and told them to give her something to eat.”

Many people already knew about his daughter was dead and alive so, this news was immediately spread around. People began to visit to see the evidence of miracles. People wanted to see miracle, but Jesus wanted to see faith.

So, Jesus gave them two orders, one is not to tell anyone know this, the other is to give her something to eat. Word is more important than miracles. When we listen Word of God well, our faith can keep healthy. But when we focus on miracles our faith cannot keep healthy.

Healing gift is great, but faith gift or love gift is better. Keeping worshiping or to serve or to stay with people of God is greater than other gifts.

This kind of faith can move a mountain. This steadfast faith builds life, family, community, and nation.

On off frequent service or worship might not be helpful for kingdom of God. Temptation from world and temptation from us is not good at all. We must see only our Lord and keep our heart to Him. It is best for us to keep walking with God in whole life.

Keeping listen Word of God is the first order of Jesus Christ.

Second order is to give her something to eat.

Reviving person is great miracle. Only God can do it. For us, giving something to eat is important. Because it is our mission from God. Keeping our calling to carry what God gave us is our blessing and gift.

Brothers and sisters in the Lord,

Let us nourish souls that God asks us to take care of. If there is not nourishing every day, we cannot keep our health or life. We must provide everyday food and love to them entrusted from God.

Whenever we receive grace from God, we must take care of souls more. That is our calling and gift. This is the way to keeping blessing received from God every day as well.

We must obey the order of creator God everyday through our obey to God in life.

God will give us praise when He see our faithful obey. Our heavenly reward will be coming on us once God pleases us.

Peter and Paul and Timothy were all rewarded from God Because of them obeying to take care of souls that God entrusted them.

I Thessalonian 5:16-18 say,

“Be joyful always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.”

One faithful lady has been serving people of God in a local church with steadfast heart. Because he was thankful to God for saving her life and family. She has kept serving this with thanks, she did not leave her place to serve people in life long. She was blessed to be honor people in the congregation to take care of people of God. Many people learned faith from her, and she became wonderful model of faith in her congregation. She always praises God.

II Thessalonian 3:5 say,

“May the Lord direct your hearts into God’s love and Christ’s perseverance.”

God be with all of you, Amen.
