“Discovered A Well Of Fresh Water” (Genesis 26:12-22)
May the grace and love of God be upon you who is listening to God’s voice today in this worship.
Onrie Kompan is a cartoonist, and his bestselling book is “Yisoon Shin” in US. He saw a Korean movie “Immortal Admiral Yi Sun-sin while studying in college. He was surprised to be the real character in history. He became Yi sun sin mania. He began to draw this inspiring figure in his cartoon for 17 years and introduced him to many people by his cartoon talent.
Many people began to like this sacrificial person and through his eagerness Admiral Yi became a lovJapanese invaded Chosun, Korea 0n 1592 and in one month occupied capital city, Hanyang and Pyongyang by overwhelming military power but they were defeated finally after 7 years. They failed to supply food because of Yisunsin, and Yoosimin, and Kwonryul to block their supply route as south and west coast and farm province of Korean peninsula.
Japanese army could not understand “the Righteousness soldiers” which was voluntarily joined in battle. That is a crucial characteristic of Korean people in history. They are voluntarily joined when they see unjust to protect the weak rather than other people.
This character might infect to grow nation and people and culture indirectly. ed character in the world beyond area of military.
Today Bible let us know how God protect the faithful with His righteousness.
Let us rea together Genesis 26:19-22,
“Issac’s servants dug in the valley and discovered a well of fresh water there, But the herdsman of Garar quarreled with Issac’s herdsman and said, “The water is ours!” so he named the well Esek, because the disputed with him. Then they dug another well, but they quarreled over that one also; so, he named it Sitnah. He moved on from there and dug another well, and no one quarreled over it. He named it Rehoboth, saying, “Now the Lord has given us room, and we will flourish in the land.”
Issac led his family after his father Abraham passed away in immigration land. But the process to settle down was not easy. Many tackled him and he had to move many times because of conflict with neighbors who lived there long time.
God blessed Issac because he was faithful and meek. He did not quarrel with others. Always he yielded to them and waited what God give him again.
Verse 12-13 say,
“Issac planted crops in that land and the same year reaped hundredfold, because the Lord blessed him.”
God knew him so, filled what he needs. That is why God love him.
Isaac was not farmer, but he got multiple crops in new area. His success came from hand of God. But his rivals began to obstruct with envy. They began to dig in well of water of Issacs several times. They tried to block his business strongly.
Verse 14-15 say,
“He had so many flocks and herds and servants that the Philistines envied him. So, all the wells that his father’s servants had dug in the time of his father Abraham, the Philistines stopped up, filling them with earth.”
stopping up well is to threat because cattle and people need water to live. Servants of Issac asked to fight against the unjust. But Issac let them move from there and began to dig new place whenever the rival stopped their well.
God blessed him whenever dug in and discovered fresh water from there. Issac knew that God always be with himself. So, they could discover wells of fresh water as miracle.
He tried to keep God’s mind while their rivals tried to keep their benefits. He understood what had already happened in conflict with others, and he could not keep that. That is why he yield always to them. But he tried to keep God and his grace. He believes that that way is only way to keep himself and his people without losing anything eventually.
God made him rich and safe without hinderance. God always filled us with blessing whenever we obey his righteous will. That is our strength as children of God.
Jesus Christ asks us in Matthew 5:39 “if someone strike you on your right cheek, turn to him the other also.” Issac practiced it rightly. He yields all that other wanted to take and waited lead of God to other way.
It could not do without perfect obedience to God. Issac finally arrived Beersheba, where God planned to bless him after many painful experiences. But he believed in faithful God. Whenever new well discovered, he kept in mind that God is with him.
Verse 24-25 say,
“that night the Lord appeared to him and said, “I am the God of your father Abrahm. Do not be afraid. For I am with you; I will bless you and will increase the number of your descendants for the sake of my servant Abraham.” Issac built an altar there and called on the name of the Lord. There he pitched his tent, and there his servants dug a well.”
Brothers and sisters in the Lord,
God is sincere and faithful! He wants to bless us with abundant grace. Let us obey God waiting until he works for us. He is always right and good. That is our strength and joy!
Issac confessed that God would give us room wider whenever obstacles came before him. This is how we children of God thinking of before any suffering.
Abraham his father passed his faith test in mountain when God asked him his loved son. God blessed him with great things. Issac his son passed as well with his meek faith before strong obstacles from rivals.
Our strength as children of God does not come from success from this world but comes from faith to trust faithful God. We can win by our obedience in this secular world.
Please don’t be in rush with anxiety and wait hand of faithful God our Lord. The Lord will take care of everything in us.
We can lose our blessings by impatient. Waiting with prayer is good in faith. We can only get peaceful and safe life under hand of God in unstable world.
Apostle Paul and disciple Peter won by this way to trust God.
Psalm 37:3-4 say,
“trust in the Lord and do good; dwell in the land and enjoy safe pasture, Delight yourself in the Lord and he will give you the desires of your heart.”
One faithful person has been in hard times because of his rival in work. He prayed God and waited what God work. He yields by helping the rival. Later God blessed him by the best way.
He got peaceful position without any conflict and his rial got other position as well. He kept all when trusting God to work.
Psalm 37:5-6 say,
“Commit your way to the Lord; trust in him and he will do this; He will make your righteousness shine like the dawn, the justice of your cause like the noonday sun.”
God be with all of you, Amen.
