“He Did Everything God Commanded” (Genesis 6:13-22)
May the grace and love of God be upon you who is listening to God’s voice today in this worship.
Mountain tsunami happened last week in borders of Napal and Tibet and China so, thousands of people had died or missing. Because of carbon emissions exhaust gas global warming affected all over the world with climate change.
Snow in the Alps kept melting so, ski resort was almost closed due to lack of snow while glaciers became smaller every year. And mountains of Himalayas called as roof of world have been having lots of glaciers lakes made from water of melting glaciers due to high temperature. There are more than 20,000 glacier lakes and dangerous ones are over 200.
50 years ago, August of 1975, 62 dams of Yangtze River were destroyed due to heavy rain so almost 230,000 people had died. And December of 2004, Tsunami hit shore of Indonesia due to deep sea earthquake of west Atlantic Ocean so, almost 210,000 people had died from these disasters.
When water deviates from its own place, it becomes very dangerous disaster.
Today Bible let us know great flood of Noah. God called Noah for way of salvation when He made judgement by flood.
Let us read together Genesis 6:17-22,
“I am going to bringing floodwaters on the earth to destroy all life under the heavens, every creature that has the breath of life in it.
But I will establish my covenant with you, and you will enter the ark, you and your sons and your wife and your sons ’wives with you.
You are to bring into the ark two of all living creature, male and female, to keep them alive with you. Two of every kind of bird, of every kind of animal and every kind of creature that moves along the ground will come to you to be kept alive. You are to take every kind of food that is be eaten and store it away as food for you and for them. Noah did everything just as God commanded him.
The most important word in this verse is verse 6, “Noah did everything just as God commanded him.”
He accomplished all without exception on commandment of God. Noah listened this word of God 120 years ago from the great flood. Then the world was calm and there was no sign of judgement. But Noah began to build the ark on the top of mountain. This could not be done if he did not accept and obey the voice of God. He followed only will of God despite many hinderances as mock and harassment. But he kept going toward goal that God ordered him to save his people with God’s creatures.
Faith is obeying. This is to follow what God orders on me in preparing and living and leaving along with Him. Whatever judgement or disaster come to us, we focus on only Almighty God, our savior and be used for God’ saving plan.
If Noah hesitated once listening the voice of God, he could Not made the shipbuilding for the ark. So, he could not be saved once the judgement suddenly came before him. When God has chosen him, he gracefully responded with obey and became to be used for salvation plan of great God.
Brothers and sisters in the Lord,
We can be used when we obey God. There were lots of reasons not to obey God for Noah. but he did not seek disobeying but dd seek obeying God. If he did not respond God might seek another person that obey God. When we disobey God, the chance of being used by God go to another obeying person.
Miracles are in everyday life. Miracles are not special. When we obey God, we can see and feel many miracles in the living God. Because we don’t want to listen voice of God, we cannot listen the voice of Him. Now God is living so if we are eager to see him with obeying heart, God will be seen on me.
Even though everyone is sleep spiritually, someone is listening to the voice of God as Noah who were eager to hear Him. Saving ark through this obedience makes another salvation for people.
What God ordered Noah were 3 things. First is to build ark, second is to board family and animals selected, and third is to store food for all of them.
The first and third one is possible by Noah’s effort. But the second one is not easy to do. Verse 20 say,
“Two of every kind of bird, of every kind of animal and every kind of creature that moves along the ground will come to you to be kept alive.”
This means that God will do that not Noah does. Noah cannot call birds and animals into the ark. God promised him to bring all of them selected into the ark. Noah did not need to take them. God did! Only animals that responded God could be saved as well.
So, what did Noah do then?
Verse 18, say,
“But I will establish my covenant with you, and you will enter the ark, you and your sons and your wife and your sons ’wives with you.”
Only thing Noah had to do is to bring his all family into the ark according to order of God, so be saved. This is to obey commandment of salvation to save lives and commandment of creature to keep the lives.
Children of Noah might listen the voice of God as their parents did. So, they obeyed and helped him so that they all could be saved from the great flood.
What was the family of Noah doing in the ark?
That was to store food for all lives in ark to survive.
Verse 21 say,
“You are to take every kind of food that is be eaten and store it away as food for you and for them.”
Feeding to survive is their job that God entrusted. Well feeding and living is our mission before God for salvation under the will of God.
Surviving with grace of God in sinful world and inheriting the grace to next generation for commandment of creating and saving God is our mission in this world.
There were creatures that moved along ground in the ark. They were snacks or crocodiles. And there was beast of prey as well. They could be together in one place in nature. But God made them calm and gentle in ark so that was a miracle. God made them to be survived all in the ark under the great flood.
Jesus says in Matthew’s Gospel 24:39,
“and they knew nothing about what would happen until the fold came and took them all away. That is how it will be at the coming of the Son of Man.”
One faithful lady had parents who did not have faith to God. She has prayed long time for God that her parents believe in God. When her parents got old, they said to her that they wanted to go to church one day. She was so happy. She planned to take them to a church near them. But while planning to go to church, her father suddenly passed away. She regretted missing the chance to go to church and she was thankful to take her mom to church.
Luke’s Gospel 21:34 say,
“Be careful, or your hearts will be weighed down with dissipation, drunkenness and the anxieties of life, and that day will close on you unexpectedly like a trap.”
Verse 36 say,
“Be always on the watch, and pray that you may be Escape all that is about to happen, and that you may be able to stand before the Son of Man.”
God will be with all of you, Amen.
