“Rejoice, Pray, and Give Thanks” (I Thessalonians 5:12-24)
May the grace and love of God be upon you who is listening to God’s voice today in this worship.
Alexandra C. Karp, co-founder of Palantir with Peter Tier, said, in his book “The Technological Republic”, all technologies need to serve public nation interest beyond its own industry interest.
He emphasized that engineers in Silicon Valley need to serve rebuilding strong nation without politicians in Washing D.C. The mission of technology is to serve on the value of effectiveness rather than universal value. He wanted to come to the Tech Elite Era beyond Moral elite era. In this Digital revolution era, artificial intelligence substituted white color, humanoid robot blue color, legacy energy new energy.
We are seeing the great transition in this era from universal value to efficiency value.
In this uncertainty era, we children of God need to stand on Word from God. Our value as children of God doesn’t change even though this world is changed. Rather we are clear and brighter to be saints.
Let us read together I Thessalonian 5:15-22,
“Make sure that nobody pays back wrong for wrong, but always try to be kind to each other and to everyone else. Be joyful always;
Pray continually; Give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus. Do not put the Spirit’s fire; Do not treat prophecies with contempt. Test everything, Hold on to the good.
Avoid every kind of evil.”
Apostle Paul encouraged congregations in the church in his letter to Thessalonians who have been persecuted hardly by gentile in their city.
It was for them to keep faith to God in Jesus Christ due to hard persecutions from the world. They were under secular world. After becoming Christians, their way of living was so different from previous one. They were practicing Christian way in their life.
That was the way of loving others as Christ Jesus taught them through gospel. They understood what Jesus Christ taught them and what Christians must do in this world.
Evil way is not way for Christians. Only good way is for them. Sword brings sword, hate brings hate, all thing evil is tool of Satan to break beautiful life of Children of God that God gave them.
Jesus Christ overcame these sins through sacrificing himself on cross. His love and forgiveness made all human being free from judgement and death.
First, as children of God we must respect each other to follow Jesus Christ.
Verse 14 says,
“And we urge you, brothers, warn those who are idle, encourage the timid, help the weak, be patient with everyone.”
When saints respect each other, the secular world cannot defeat them. And the way of respecting them is to keep endurance.
While we are enduring it gives us wisdom, perspective, and ability.
Saints are the being that God uses while making this world changed to will of God.
Second, honor yourself as children of God. Keep yourself to be steadfast heart and mind with good faith according to all instruction from Word.
We are the tool or weapon of God to use for salvation on all people amid sinful world. The faithful will of God will be coming wherever we go with Word.
Brothers and sisters in the Lord,
We must focus on good thought, good heart, and good choice for kingdom of God always.
Verse 16-22 says,
“Be joyful always; Pray continually; Give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus. Do not put the Spirit’s fire; Do not treat prophecies with contempt. Test everything, Hold on to the good. Avoid every kind of evil.”
This is the Will of God that God want us to do in all life. And when we do these, we will receive the blessing from God. Because this is the promise of God.
We are glorifying God through worship service regularly formally. And keeping this faithful life is the living worship in our life as well.
When we fill with will of God in life the blessing of God fill in life. Holy Spirit let us know the heart of God. Worship, praise, service, prayer, endurance, and healing are all work of Holy Spirit to connect with God.
Let us keep doing these with Holy Spirit every day. Let us abide by Him. Let us do not put the Spirit’s fire; Do not treat prophecies with contempt.
Prophecies are to listen Word of God. Thoughts of the secular world treat these with contempt. But when we keep in mind these Word, our heart overcome secular ones.
All power of overcoming the power of sinful power comes from the Word of God. Let us keep listening Word always. If we do not close the Word, sinful world will be close to us. Let us take in good things in God and take off evil things. This world is always changeable and unstable. We must overcome it by good.
God have inserted His children into this world as good seed for kingdom of God. When we take root, the great fruits will come into this world.
Many good children of God made church, school, and hospital while going in unstable complicated world as war or conflict. So, their efforts made this world safer and brighter due to love for life. That is the will of God.
Let us make ourselves holy temple to abide with God.
Verse 24 says,
“The one who calls you is faithful and he will do it.”
God be with all of you, Amen.
