“Good Soil, Good Seed” (Matthew’s Gospel 13:1-9)

May the grace and love of God be upon you who is listening to God’s voice today in this worship.

Chizumulu United is a professional soccer team at Chizumulu island Malawi, Africa. The owner is Donghoon Lee, 24 years old Korean. A Korea newspaper introduced his wonderful story to love soccer and people of a small island in East Africa.

He was a Youtuber to introduce soccer teams in the world. He has introduced not best famous teams but weak teams, especially in Africa or Asia. He has traveled to introduce them. He has seen a small league in Africa while traveling for his recording for YouTube. And he has encountered this soccer team at Chizumulu island, Malawi.

While spending time with them, he was moved by his heart on them and their good heart and mind. They were working hard to do soccer games under hard life of fishing. Their soccer love was amazing.  He gave them one hundred bills to support their soccer life when he returned home. But he visited again there and finally became their only soccer team “Chizumulu United” to live with them and to help them make their dream to win.

He has fundraised to support them through his YouTube. Some people responded to his requests. He shipped soccer items to the island to help the people of the island. His beautiful story is making people please. We can see that love is making everyone happy.

Today Jesus teaches us how we can be fruitful life. Lord let us know what good seed and good soil is.

Let us read together Matthew’s Gospel 13:3-9

“Then he told them many things in parables, saying: “A farmer went out to sow his seed. As he was scattering the seed, some fell along the path, and the birds came and ate it up. Some fell on rocky places, where it did not have much soil. It sprang up quickly, because the soil was shallow. But when the sun came up, the plants were scorched, and they withered because they had no root. Other seed fell among thorns, which grew up and choked the plants. Still other seed fell on good soil, where it produced a crop, a hundred, sixty or thirty times what was sow let him hear.”

This is a parable that Lord Jesus Christ taught us.
In the spring a farmer scattered seeds. Some of them fell along the path, but birds ate it up. Some fell on rocky place, but it sprang up quickly. Some fell on thorns, but they were withering. Some fell on good soil, it produced one hundred, sixty, or thirty times what was sown. He who has ears,

Verse 18-19 say,

“Listen then to what the parable of the sower means, when anyone hears the message about the kingdom and does not understand it, the evil one comes and snatches away what was sown in his heart. This is the seed along the path.”

When we hear Word of God, someone who has near unbelievers cannot have a chance to grace due to evil interruptions as busyness or urgent issue.

One lady was moved by her heart when he listened to a sermon in worship service with her friend on his first visit. And he promised to attend again with friend. But from that day much busy and urgent issues came to her so she could not go to church anymore. Whenever she tried to come to church, urgent issues happened to her.

This is spiritual, not physically. This is case of the seed along the path and birds ate up. The evil one comes and snatches away what was sown in her heart. Verse 20-21 say,

“The one who received the seed that fell on rocky places is the man who hear the word and at once received it with joy. But since he has no root, he lasts only a short time. When trouble or persecution comes because of the word, he quickly falls away.”

One lady enjoyed Word of God when she attended worship service with her close friend. She received much grace and was eager to keep attending church worship service. But when she told her family, husband did not want her to go to church. And she had to struggle with her husband. due to faith matter. She finally gave up going to church, she did not want to put family in danger.

That is the seed on rocky place. Persecution blocks her faith from growing. Trouble or persecution came due to Word, so she quickly falls away.

Verse 22 says,

“The one who received the seed that fell among the thorns is the man who hears the word, but the worries of this life and the deceitfulness of wealth choke it, making it unfruitful.”

One faithful man has been serving in a church very well with other faithful congregation in small group, Sunday school, choir, even prayer meeting. But after owning a small business, he began to skip worship service on Sunday due He has not come to church until he lost his business. He could come back to church five years later.

This is the seed fell on thorns. The worries of this life and the deceitfulness of wealth choke it, making it unfruitful. Seeds of the Word should be fruitful, but this not good soil makes it unfruitful.

Verse 23 say,

“But the one who received the seed that fell on good soil is the man who hears the word and understands it. He produces a crop, yielding a hundred, sixty or thirty times what was sown.”

Faith falls on the good soil produces many crops.

One young girl went to church along with her close friend. She moved her heart on the first visit of worship service in church. She loved God and Word. She became steadfast faith toward God. She has been serving many ministries in church even mission work. She invited whole family to God. Her family became core members of the church where she serves.

God gives us good soil heart, and we can serve Him with our all of life. This is evidence of being in God.

Ruth and Lydia and Aquila Priscia were all who had good soil of heart and mind received from God. They produced many faith crops, a hundred, sixty, and thirsty times.

Brothers and sisters in the Lord,

Let us ask God to give us good soil of heart so we can produce much crop of faith to glorify God.

Psalm 112:5-6 say,

“Good will come to him who is generous and lends freely, who conducts his affairs with justice. Surely, he will never be shaken; a righteous man will be remembered forever”

God be with all of you, Amen.
