“Purchased A Field Amid War” (Jeremiah 32:9-15)
May the grace and love of God be upon you who is listening to God’s voice today in this worship.
BRICS is an international economic organization consist of Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa. Only two from them are going to attend China’s national ceremony in few days of celebrating victory over Japan. Three of them are not going to attend that ceremony. Instead, North Korea is going to attend there. 10 years ago. South Korea president attended that ceremony welcomed by President Xi Jinping.
North Korea seems to recover relationship with China which moved away after sending soldiers to Russia in war against Ukraine. They seem to know the limit of power of Russia so that they seem to be close again toward China.
South Korea became strong nation having great economic power with 10 ranking of world and military one of 5 ranking. There is no Korea of 70 years ago. Even US look at them due to Semin conduct, technology, shipbuilding, and weapon industry. US need their help to keep superpower in future.
South Korea is stronger than all European nations military power total. Even Russia need help from South Korea to rebuild recovering nation economically after their war undergoing. Cultural power such as music and movies is more amplifying impact in worldwide.
This great growth came from wisdom choice to choose God under painful history century ago. They invested their life into right faith with right God.
We can see the result of their choice glorifying God, creator and master of all life and world.
Today is a story about a prophet who was buying a field amid war. His name is Jeremiah.
Let us rea together Jeremiah 32:13-15,
“In their presence I gave Baruch these instructions; This is what the Lord Almighty the God of Israel, says: Take these documents, both the sealed and unsealed copies of the deed of purchase, and put them in a clay jar so they will last a long time. For this is what the Lord Almighty, the God of Israel, says: Houses, Fields and vineyards will again be bought in this land.”
B.C 586 Babylon empire invaded Judah and almost occupied their capital “Jerusalem by great number of military powers. Prophet Jeremiah was in prison and all people in the city were in great fear to death because they knew what would be happening after being occupied by enemy. There was no hope and possibility of surviving in the city confined to long days.
Suddenly God gave a message to Jeremiah to buy a field of his cousin. Few days later his cousin visited him in prison and asked him to buy their field. Jeremiah accepted it to buy 17-shekel silvers with sealed and unsealed document of the deed of purchase.
It was so ridiculed because of war and there was no hope of surviving. But God wanted to know them that there will be hope again.
Purchasing land means working again in the field. It means that God will not abandon them and will restore them again. This is symbolic sign of God walking with them amid great fear and difficult.
People of Judah returned in 70 years of exile after being destroyed and captured by Babylon empire. And they rebuilt temple and wall of the city Jerusalem later which was destroyed.
But then nobody believed that message to recover. Only Jeremiah obeyed what God had promised so that he purchased the field according to order of God even though he was in prison.
He had no hope to future as well. But he listened voice of God under painful situation when other ignored it. God wanted to give His people hope so servant Jeremiah showed to purchase a field as symbolic action.
Brothers and sisters in the Lord,
Children of God is a great existence to see hope in the despair. When everyone says despair, they say hope. When all says death, they say life. Because they know well that God reign all in the world.
When we see this world, we can’t see future but when we see God amid grim world, we can see sacred and hope filled world in Him. So, death and pain even and fear cannot block us to go with God. And the confidence of believer who see the living God makes others around them see as well hope overcoming fear and obstacle.
So, whoever see God in fear will be steadfast life. Nobody can save us and recover us but only God save us. Children of God know well this fact, so they become strong and brave before all fear and obstacle.
God whom we believe is the living God and He is Creator and Sovereign.
Idol and superstition are product of imagination of human comforting themselves from all fear and painful destiny. They are not real they cannot do anything to help us. Whenever we rely on that we can be more afraid and anxious.
Let us go toward our living God, true Lord of all creation. There is no place where God cannot reign in the world and in the universe. Because He created and made all in the world, he is true master of all life, all history and only will of God will be accomplished according to His plan and will.
I Chronicles 29:12 say,
“Wealth and honor come from you; you are the ruler of all things. In your hands are strength and power to exalt and give strength to all.”
Solomon praised as this when he worshipped God after consecrating Temple.
David was relying on only God in difficult time of fleeing. Abraham was relying on God in wandering time of his move to new land to settle. Paul was relying on the living God on the way to deliver gospel of Jesus Christ in dangerous time and place to go. They became the life to open hopeful life amid despair life.
One faithful lady deacon started to save small amount of money from difficult time economically after listening sermon from her church by pastor. The sermon to save some difficult time impressed her. In 5 years later she could get a business by saving money that she had kept.
It was very useful to help her life. She confessed that the message of God saving something in difficult time is total right.
Let us save our faith and life and all energy toward God through worship, and prayer. God will bless us having our saving in Him.
Psalm 33:12 say,
“Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord. The people he chose for his inheritance.”
