“Resolve The Holy Will” (Daniel 1:15-20)

May the grace and love of God be upon you who is listening to God’s voice today in this worship.

Berlin Wall was fallen On November 9, 1998, in resulting end of Cold War that divided the world into two. Brandenburger Gate was the exact site to begin Fall. West Germany have provided food and water and energy for 50 years by planes to survive people in West Berlin.

Willy Brandt, Mayer of West Berlin have given money to people of East Germany when they visited Wast. The people returned with buying coffee, chocolate, and banana. These efforts have made successful reunification of Germany with Berlin Wall Fall. And he became Prime Minister of West Germany later.

The heart of believing goodness of human and of believing love of God will make falling any kind of wall in human. And this heart has fallen the Wall of the world.

Fear brings hate and hate draws discrimination as well. If we believe God and goodness of human created by God, we can forgive and embrace anybody.

Right thought leads to the right belief and right belief leads to right choice.

Today Bible some of young men wins in battle of thinking in secular and idolatry culture with steadfast faith to God. They resolved not to defile themselves with sinful culture.

Let us read together Daniel 1:15-17,

“At the end of the ten days they looked healthier and better nourished than any of the young men who ate the royal food.
So the guard took away their choice food and the wine they were to drink and gave them vegetables instead. To these four young men God gave knowledge and understanding of all kinds of literature and learning, And Daniel could understand visions and dreams of all kinds.”

After collapsing their mother country, Judah by Babylon on B.C. 586. Danile and his three friends, Shadrach, Meshach, Abednego were drafted by Babylon as training for officers for Babylon. But they resolved to defile themselves with royal food which was offered to gentile god.

They asked the chief officer to eat vegetables instead of royal food. After ten-day trials their looks were better than other young men eating royal food. The chief officer permitted them to eat what they wanted, and they could keep their life and faith from gentile culture and gentile religion.

The better blessing was that God gave them great knowledge and understanding ten times rather than others and Daniel could understand vision and dream more.

God loved them keeping relationship with God and gave them great protection in gentle world. Daneil became prime minister under three regimes in Babylon under God’s providence. He first set up to connect with
God and he connected with world as well.

Verse 20 says,

“In every matter of wisdom and understanding about which the king questioned them, he found them ten times better than all the magicians and enchanters in his whole kingdom.”

People think of making relationships with people. They think good human relationships might be helpful in future life so that they study, fellowship, and skill to earn. And this effort might be good but there is more important.

That is the relationship with God. If God does not stand with us, our all effort might be in vain even though we put much effort in it.

Daniel and three friends were in a new and hard environment in life and faith in Babylon. They were not east to keep their own faith to God. They were pushed by the new environment to give up their faith to God, but they tried to find best way to keep what they wanted as children of God and worshipper. And God guided them right way whenever they wanted to be with God.

Eating vegetables was the best way for them to keep their faith and life.

If we have eagerness to keep faith God will give us various way and ideas.

Some high school senior students who applied to college Admission. They wanted to keep prayer time in school lunch time. They found a small church near their school, and they asked pastor to visit there every lunch time to pray and permitted. They have kept one year their prayer time until graduation. God blessed them and they got admissions and had good job and good marriage as well.

They had learned that the relationship with God is more important than the relationship with others.

Brothers and sisters in the Lord,

Let us resolve not to defile ourselves with secular life. If we glorify God, God raise us up as well.

In Genesis, Joseph resolved not to defile himself with sin in house of Potiphar of Egypt. He put in prison due to plot, but God raised him up to prime minister for king.

His life became the symbol of glorifying God and of rising life by hand of God.

Genesis verse 39:9 say,

“How then could Ido such a wicked thing and sin against God?”

He refused sinful choice even though his life might put in risky. He has chosen God rather than world. That is why he was blessed. He pleased God any time any situation.

When we as children of God choose to glorify God, God will raise up and open door of blessing unopn us.

Let us give our time, our work, and our material to God, and worship is the moment of serving God with all these. If we put our all thing in life to worship Him, God give back more than we do. God is faithful. Let us trust Him with our heart and mind.

Psalm 111”5 say,

He provides food for those who fear him; he remembers his covenant forever.”

One soldier volunteered to work in vigil at weekend to keep Sunday worship in one year. His faith was grown up during that time and God blessed him due to his love to God. He confessed God has been with him after that choice to serve God rather than his own benefits. When he gave up his own God gave back more than he did.

Psalm 115:13-15 say,

“He will bless those who fear the Lord, small and great alike. May the Lord make you increase, both you and your children. May you be blessed by the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth.”

God be with all of you, Amen.
