“Remember The Lord Your God” (Deuteronomy 8:11-18)

May the grace and love of God be upon you who is listening to God’s voice today in this worship.

There is a beautiful hill country site in Kerrville Texas. I have been there to attend some conferences at a retreat center, Mo Rance managed by Presbyterian foundation. It was pretty views having creeks and streams and woods.

However, two days ago there was a huge flood due to a great amount of rain of over 300-millimeter rainfall which is biggest in a century.

More than 50 people died in disaster torrent. There were many children camps to celebrate The Fourth of July holiday. Over 700 children were there in the flood water disaster.

We need to keep praying for victims and rescuers. Geographically, Texas has a weak situation in water flooding due to narrow creeks and frequent flash rain. We need to be aware of water floodings in this rainy season.

We are living a risky life. Nobody knows what will happen tomorrow. We can survive without God's protection. We must give thanks to God because of His great protection.

Today Bible teaches us to give thanks to God. And we can give thanks to God through obeying Word from God.

Let us read together Deuteronomy 8:15-18,

"He led you through the vast and dreadful desert, that thirsty and waterless land. With its venomous snakes and scorpion. He brought you water out of hard rock. He gave you manna to eat in the desert, something your fathers had never known, to humble and to test you so that in the end it might go well with you. You may say to yourself, “My power and the strength of my hands have produced this wealth for me.” But remember the Lord your God, for it is the who gives you the ability to produce wealth, and so confirms his covenant, which he swore to your fathers, as it is today."

All human is enjoying themselves when it is comfort without seeking God. But those in good faith seek God with giving thanks whenever they are comfortable.

Because they know that this peace is evidence of presence of God. So that they praise God and serve His people whenever it is comfortable.

Children of God is ceaselessly keeping asking God under painful time and they know that the peace is answer of God with pitiful heart upon them.

The reason that saints do not pride is that they know God is then true owner of our lives.

People of Israel understood that their journey of 40 years wilderness was filled with all grace from God. They confessed how His love is great to themselves.

God taught them through Moses to know how they keep their blessing. That is to obey Word of God in any circumstance of succeed or not. No forgetting Word of God is the best way to keep all thing God gave us.

Verse 11 say,

"Be careful that you do not forget the Lord your God, failing to observe his commands, his laws and his decrees that I am giving you this day."

The unwise becomes the pride in succeed time even though they were humble in painful time. Because they are not wise, they are changed depending on situation changes.
This means that they do not think about our true owner of our life is God only.

Jesus Christ said with parable, a rich man who harvested great amount of grain and kept in his wide storage, saying that I'm full and rich and not enough. But Lord asked people that who will take his own if God will take his life this night?

This unwise thing happens due to misunderstanding as " I am the owner of my life."

Brothers and sisters in the Lord,

The true owner of our life is not us but God only. We need to recognize and express it. Our life will be done according to the maker, the designer, Almighty God and will be returned to Him again.

When we need to admit this truth, we can be happy, and our life will be successful. But if we do not admit it, we will not be happy and lack.

Despite long experience in wilderness, people of Israel might pride if they become rich and comfortable at new land, the Promised Land. They could forget grace of God due to prosperity in the new land.  God know their sin and instinct so that He wanted to let them know how keep their blessing forever in new circumstance.

Verse 17 say,

"You may say to yourself, “My power and the strength of my hands have produced this wealth for me.”"

God want them to know the strength having the wealth comes from God. And when they obey the Word of God, they will keep their blessing long.

This is our blessing that we are humble before God and obey Him.

David made many Psalms in painful time of life and knew God is only way to rely on in his life. So, he became great servant of God lifelong to build great nation God wanted.

Moses fled to wilderness as a runaway and saw God in the lone and painful time. He could complete great mission to lead people of God to the Promised Land safely.

Paul was suffering in prison many times during the journey of mission trip. He was close to God in the painful time. He could accomplish successful this mission to deliver gospel the world through the intimate relationship with God.

Our success depends on how close to our God!  The unwise begins by grace but ends with lust. They start with God but finish with secular world.

Philippians 1:20-21 say,

"I eagerly expect and hope that I will in no way be ashamed but will have sufficient courage so that now as always Christ will be exalted in my body, whether by life or death. For to me, to live is Christ and to die is gain."

He confesses whether he live or die, Christ is his goal of life.

One faithful lady got cancer, and she recovered after many times praying to God. She has confirmed God's love. 10 years later she about died by same disease, but she was happy giving thanks to God because she understood that God has been with her life.

Romans 14:8 say,

"If we live, we live to the Lord, and if we die, we die to the Lord, so whether we live or die, we belong to the Lord."

God be with all of you, Amen.
