“Jesus Christ Blessed On Children” (Mark’s Gospel 10:13-16)
May the grace and love of God be upon you who is listening to God’s voice today in this worship.
Ssopa Banjunghwan, Korea, in declaration of Day of Children on May 1923 said our only hope is to nurture our children well. He is a pioneer of leading social change for children’s rights and protection. He said that children are new human beings rather than adults honoring them, not pouring anger on them, having fun, praising them, watching their condition of body, and having them read books.
Eglantyne Jebb, founder of Save the Children, drafted Declaration of the Rights of the Child o 1924 and later adapted by UN in 1959. This idea came from teaching of Bible, Word of God.
Jesus Christ did teach us to protect the weak any kind. This is the will of God creating all life on earth. Once human being honors this will of God, they were prospered but if they did not honor it, they were not.
God pleases when we honor all life that God created. God especially pleases children. We can see how much our Lord Jesus Christ love them in Bible.
Let us read together Mark’s gospel 10:13-16,
“People were bringing little children to Jesus to have him touch them, but the disciples rebuked them. When Jesus saw this, he “was indignant. He said to them, “Let the little come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these.I tell you the truth, anyone who will not receive the kingdom of God like a little child will never enter it.” And he took the children in his arms, put his hands on them and blessed them.”
One day mothers came to Jesus to have him touch. But disciples rebuked them not to be near Jesus Christ. When Jesus saw this, he was indignant He said to them,
“Let the little come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these. anyone who will not receive the kingdom of God like a little child will never enter it.” And he took the children in his arms, put his hands on them and blessed them.”
This teaching of Jesus was the surprising teaching because children was regarded to belongings of adult in that era. Jesus said that kingdom of God belongs to such as these, children. That was an evolutional change of thinking.
Why children belong to the Kingdom of God?
First, they’re innocent, second, they’re in compliance or humility.
These are conditions for the people of heaven to enter. Children have closest conditions to enter Kingdom of God, innocent and humility. So, they must be welcomed and honored and blessed with Word of God in all community. This is teaching of our Lord.
When following this teaching, all churches, families, and society can be blessed. But not following, there might be not any blessing or prospering.
Honoring all kinds of life leads to prosperity in all kinds of civilization. Because God please this, individual, family, nation, and people are all blessed and prospered.
The start of loving life is to love child. When they grow with health and safety, their community will be stronger and safer to live in.
Children are nurtured and adults nurture them. God created them like these. So, when we take our responsibility as adult or parents in Word, God will bless all of us.
Brothers and sisters in the Lord,
When we take care of the weak in life God will take care of us as well.
Some people take care of children who lost their parents in war. They follow the will of God in their responsibility of life. They worked for future of society according to what God pleases.
Children are the future for all. Jesus said the kingdom of God belongs to these, little ones. Kingdom of God is the future and is the world forgiven by love of God in Christ. The world changed by gospel, good news for salvation.
An anthropologist researched a tribe who keeps primitive lifestyle in Pacific Ocean. There is not any kind of honoring the weak, especially to children. After all adults ate, children could have chance to eat. If there were not leftovers, children couldn’t have anything.
Lions did as well. There were not any chances of surviving for losers in their group. That was the reason for shrinking their kind on earth.
When the weak can live with the strong together in same place they are prospering but if not, no prospering.
Church followed teaching of the Lord faithfully to take care of the weak. And all generations have been prospering in church with love. Church kept in community worship, teaching, serving; Kerygma, Didache, diakonia.
Phoebe of Cenchrea, deliverer of the letter to Roman was faithful woman.
Onesimus of Ephesians, bishop pf their church was a salve of Philemon.
Timothy was the lovely son of Eunice and grandson of Lois who were faithful servants of church and coworker of Apostles Paul.
Church became the strongest community in the world when they steadfastly followed the teaching of our Lord, Jesus Christ to love the weak in all kinds of life. The start is to love children.
Let us honor all people with the image of God. This is the great wisdom of blessing all. Through this wisdom mankind got great civilization with blessing as great population, multiple food development.
Let us teach our children diligently with Word and teaching of God so that they can live with God’s blessing in their life.
This is evangelism for next generation and our mission as parents and adults before God.
Ephesians 6:4 says,
“Fathers, do not exasperate your children: instead, bring them up in the training and instruction of the Lord.”
